The Alliance for a Better Community is a group of Diamondhead residents who for years had questions about how the Property Owners Association was being run. As individuals, we were completely ignored by the POA leadership elite, and made out to be irrational and unlettered. The POA leadership’s treatment of rank and file members has been so abominable that ever-increasing numbers of members feel that they have been left out of participation in their own government. The Alliance for a Better Community is the natural outgrowth of the POA leadership’s loathsome behavior.
The POA leadership is so insulated from the rank and file members that they have no clue about what the rank and file members are interested in. What the rank and file members of the POA are interested in is a leadership that works in their interests, not the interests of individual Directors, or the interests of former Directors who could not be re-elected, or the interests of some leadership elite sympathizers armed with a long email list.
The members of the Alliance for a Better Community have decided to take advantage of our right as members of the Property Owners Association to put forth an amendment to the Association By-laws. This amendment asks the membership to reduce the size of the Board of Directors from eleven to seven members. The Alliance for a Better Community believes that Proposition 3 will lead to more efficiency and accountability. It does not restrict any members right to run for the position of Officer or Director. Any member of the Association, including the existing Officers and Directors, can run for office as many times as they wish.
I received two emails today that appear to be a coordinated attack on the Alliance for a Better Community. One email accuses the ABC of using the “Big Lie” to further our cause. The only lies being told are the ones being told by those who will do anything to maintain the status quo, who will do anything to prevent change. Those lies are the last refuge of the desperate.
There couldn’t be a clearer choice. Proposition 3 will give rank and file members of the POA a bigger voice in the affairs of the POA. You can elect people who will enforce the POA’s rules and regulations equally. You can elect people who will create a budget that is fair and reasonable for every member constituency. You can run for POA office and reflect the views of a broader base of POA members.
Control of the Property Owners Association by the rank and file membership is the only way to make it successful.
Vote for Proposition 3 on June 20th.
