East Hancock County Public Library to close following funding cut
The Hancock County Library System Board of Trustees voted recently to close the East Hancock Public Library.
This closure vote comes in the wake of a $42,000 cut in library funding from the Hancock County Board of Supervisors. The library system received no additional funds to operate the library when it opened in 2013, and suffered funding cuts in 2013, 2014, and 2015.
“The decision to close the East Hancock Public Library was very difficult,” Stephanie McConnell, chairman of the Hancock County Library System Board of Trustees, said.
The Board of Trustees is developing a closure plan for the facility, which will close on or before December 31, 2015.
