Any comments, questions, or suggestions re Wednesday’s SISLOW/LOPEZ “TOWN HALL”?
FROM THE NEWSPAPER ANNOUNCEMENT:
NOTICE: City of Diamondhead. Town Hall Meeting.
Wednesday, June 11, 2014, 6:00PM-8:00pm; City Hall.
Hosted by Joe Lopez, Councilman Ward 1, Thom Sislow, Councilman Ward 3.
COME ASK ANY QUESTIONS.
According to City Staff: “…It is NOT a sanctioned meeting, therefore an Agenda will not be presented.”June 9, 2014 at 11:43 am #7157
No agenda?..Then why have a meeting?..Just a question session?.Can you tell us anything we don’t already know? Can we expect honest answers to our questions, regardless of the subject?June 9, 2014 at 4:04 pm #7163
HOW ABOUT WHY ARE YOU STILL TRYING TO BUY THE CHURCH? LET IT GO BANKRUPT AND GET IT FOR NOTHING!!! HOW ABOUT WHY DO WE HAVE A COURT, IT IS NOT NECESSARY BY LAW AND TOO EXPENSIVE!!! HOW ABOUT WHY ARE WE RENTING THE VEHICLE BARN FROM THE POA FOR $1,000 A MONTH WHEN WE THE POA MEMBERS OWN??? DO YOU SUPPORT THE CASINO? DO YOU REALIZE THAT THE CASINO WILL COST US ADDITIONAL TAXES???June 9, 2014 at 4:09 pm #7164
According to one of the “HOSTS”:
“There is no agenda. This is NOT a city meeting.
It is a town hall meeting so the citizens can ask questions.
Hopefully we can answer most.
This meeting will be conducted in a positive, civil and polite manner.
Joe and I paid for the newspaper announcements.”

COMMENT: Sent from a friend, but a widely held view:
“Having a Sislow on both POA and City is just troubling.”June 9, 2014 at 4:13 pm #7165
Another Question for the “Hosts”:
WHY were you two “Hosts” the ONLY Councilmen to tried to BLOCK the firing of former City Manager R. Rose???June 10, 2014 at 7:47 am #7170
Watch for some of the FORMER self-appointed City Regime and/or their flunkies to try to “steer” this “Town Hall” to support certain of their expensive “priorities” that our “New City’s” taxpayers don’t want or need right now.
A couple of those Old Regime “leaders” can’t swallow the fact that they were dumped by the voters.
Remember: THEY were appointed, by the POA using our dues, to make decisions for us!June 10, 2014 at 6:53 pm #7182
RE: Mr. Sislow’s invitation to COME ASK ANY QUESTIONS:
WILL these two City Councilmen answer the BIG QUESTION that many have asked, but no one has yet answered?:
WHO are the BONDHOLDERS who are being BAILED OUT by the City, WITH OUR TAX MONEY, in the City’s attempts to purchase the 27,000 sq. ft. old church?
AND do these bondholders have connections to the “INCORPORATORS”, the original POA INCORPORATION “COMMITTEE” (then headed by J. Yarbrough, current POA “Election Chairman”) and members or “financial backers” of the POA-approved initial City regime?June 11, 2014 at 8:53 am #7186
Good questions to ask
1. How do you think the city government is doing in terms of being transparent, and are there any changes you’d like to see made regarding that?
2. What can the citizens of Diamondhead expect out in the next year?
3. What ideas do you propose to increase economic development?
4. Does the city welcome economic growth and business activity with low property taxes, sales taxes, and business regulations and fees?
5. How will you create jobs in Diamondhead?
6. What are the three most important problems confronting the City of Diamondhead?
7. What are your thoughts related to the City of Diamondhead’s relationship with the POA?

Sislow on tonight’s “Town Hall” meeting:
‘We have checked with Sean (City Attorney Sean Tindell). He said there is no problem with the meeting. This is NOT city meeting governed by the Open meeting act. It is a gathering of people with the purpose of asking us questions.
“Freedom of Speech” & “The Right to Assemble”. ‘ Thomas A. Sislow [firstname.lastname@example.org] Wed 6/11/2014
WHAT A HYPOCRITE!
THIS FROM ONE OF THE COUNCILMEN WHO ORDERED CITY STAFF TO PICK UP OUR POLITICAL SIGNS.June 11, 2014 at 1:39 pm #7191
Lopez and Sislow, tell us who will pick up the expenses for this meeting tonight in City Hall, i.e., Electricity, water, etc.or do you expect we the taxpayer’s to pick it up?Inquiring minds demand to know…no more “mr nice guy”, he is dead.Time for “Truth and Consequences”June 12, 2014 at 7:07 am #7195
Did anyone go to this meeting? Anything worth sharing?June 12, 2014 at 8:53 am #7198
SISLOW/LOPEZ MEETING “HIGHLIGHTS”:
Among the 40+ attendees, were the 2 “Hosts”, their spouses, a Former City Councilman and spouse, but no other elected City officials.
Topics for questions: Jacobs Casino deal, ethics/conflicts of interest, recent negative publicity (Kyger arrest, City Manager firing), paving DH East vs DQ road, garage sale permits/signs, church bondholders, canal dredging/drainage (who is responsible?), etc. An old crony was there to ask a couple of staged questions, but he mumbled so badly that whatever he said was mostly unintelligible. He claimed to be representing or speaking for “the Golf Course”. An interesting later exchange featured a Host stating that golf course decline was responsible for loss of “snowbirds” and decline in POA “revenue” resulting in overall DH decline.
Audience opinion: It was Hurricane Katrina.
Lots of questions re paving ‘Dairy Queen road’: 4 “PRIVATE” owners of DQ road (who are they?); why not make the OWNERS pay?; estimates for paving? Lopez: “$115,000 to $350,000.”
Best statement by a Host:
“He (former City Manager R. Rose) was not given a fair shake.”June 12, 2014 at 2:53 pm #7204
My opinion of this meeting is that it was rehearsed in advance with some of the attendants..no questions were answered satisfactorily, and we should not have been limited.on time or questions…these two council members are obviously low informed personnel, and I took exception especially to the lady disputing me when I said one only needs to show a Silver Slipper card to use ANY of the amenities we pay for, and I told her she was wrong, dead wrong.
I do think however, we should have these meetings weekly so we can hold their feet to the fire.June 13, 2014 at 2:34 pm #7220
There are less snow birds because they all got old and died or moved back north so their families can care for them. As the retirees who made age their homes are put on the market by distant family members who only want to unload the property so they don’t have to pay dues and maintain houses they can’t use and don’t want.
The only solution for the areas survival is local families. Young families aren’t going to move here if the old regime continues and dues stay so high. Young people from Mississippi don’t play golf. They are too busy working for a living. In any case the POA doesn’t have title to the golf courses they just maintain and operate them – it says so in the agreement with the Jacobs group – read the agreement.June 13, 2014 at 4:02 pm #7222
I am beginning to think now that Rose was the best person with the City or POA..Bunch of snakes!
